Give It to Jesus

I was getting high in the car on the way from Austin, (BTW, Steve Brudniak's gallery show opening is tonight through this weekend, [see details to the left] not that the two are related in any way ;-) and I heard talk show smash mouths frothing over the latest pastorgate silliness. Why? Because my '71 Gallaxy only has a tintie little AM radio. It was that, polka's or Pastor Hagee.

There's a lot of hate out there in the Garden of America.

And it all seemed to be a rant about how much hate spews forth from the pulpit of the seeming black nationalist movement within the black church. That Minister Farakahn is a facist. And it all seems to spill on Senator Obama, because his hair didn't catch fire as he ran screaming from his church due to all the hate, and so on.

How strange and funny it is to hear that William Aires, who is supposedly a terrorist who loves him some Obama, wasn't convicted for bombing the Pentagon because of the fruit of the poisoned tree planted by one of the greatest terrorists of all, Richard M. Nixon.

I imagine that any revolutionary idea radicalizes itself the further its reduction by philosophical mastication. The rows between Mikhail Bakunin and Karl Marx at somebody's grimy tenement kitchen table over privatization or collectivism, or the last gin are legendary. Who plays the purest solo, Arnette Coleman or John Coltrane? Ideas are lovely things, until a time comes when they gain influence in culture, and then they run the risk of becoming corrupted by power and the requirement for compromise, pragmatism and practicality.

That's what's so funny about that Metalacylpse show where a metal band gets so popular they become the tenth largest economy in the world. Hijinks ensue. The irony is that even though they guys in the band are kings, they're really just bums.

Molly Ivins used to say that Bill Clinton was so slick he could slide through a crack in the wall. His success in forging compromise is his seeming total lack of any solid ideology. Let's hope Senator Obama becomes equally elastic.

Tory Democrat

My congressman, Nick Lampson, who is campaigning in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India this week-end will no doubt be painted as a wild-eyed liberal this fall as Republican challenger Pete Olson tries to return Tom Delay’s old District 22 seat to Federation control.

So I can forgive Lampson for trying not to saw off the limb that he’s out on as he tries to get re-elected in this Republican-drawn district, but that doesn’t mean that I have to like it.

While reading the “How Texans Voted” scorecard in the Sunday Chronicle, I thought to check how Lampson voted last week compared to some other Democrats in the Texas delegation. On the seven issues listed, Lampson voted:
With Sheila Jackson Lee one out of seven times,
With Lloyd Dogget and Al Green two out of seven times,
And with Gene Green three out of seven times.

Looking at the other party, I see that Lampson voted with Joe Barton, John Culberson, and Ted Poe six out of seven times, and that he voted just like Kevin Brady.

This makes me wonder why exactly Pete Olson thinks that we need a Republican in office. It looks to me like we already have one.

Still, Rep. Lampson has a pretty good lock on my vote this year. Mr Olson has a troubling history of associating with Phil Gramm. And any Republican candidates will about have to walk across the lake and turn my tap water into white Bordeaux before I’d vote for them.

Nevertheless, I’ll be happy when Congressman Lampson is so firmly ensconced in his seat that I can start looking for somebody to run against him.

Let 'Em Eat Cake

After a few days in Moulton, I got a creepy feeling like one gets from watching, "On the Beach," or "Andromeda Strain," for the first time. That feeling is the startling intrusion of the idea that sometimes really bad shit happens and it has an aftermath.

These gas prices are felt most by our rural brothers and sisters, like those in Moulton, who are kind of a canary in a coal mine. Let's say they are fighting for air right now.

People are literally scared. If a guy can't afford the gas to get to work, and to put an adequate amount of food on the table, (never mind the a/c in 100-degree weather) that's about as real a problem as life ever poses.

These are the things that begin the ranks of the Democrats to swell. Face it, God, gays and guns don't put food on the table. Patriot zygotes aren't such a burning issue when there's no gas to burn. When people get hungry, it tends to clear the mind of unnecessary clutter.

So, the congress hauled the oil exec's up to the Hill the other day for their semi-annual blow jobs, and quite out of nowhere, Maxine Waters from Californie blurted out something about "socializing" the oil industry, which she finally stammered into, "taking over" their businesses. Although, I found getting the exact quote on-line impossible, I heard the statement played over and over on right wing radio. Needless to say, Rush and everybody in the Republican propaganda industry's head exploded.

Before registering my support for such an idea, let me remind people that some goods and services are so crucial to the interests of the public that they can't be entrusted to a few private individuals: blood supplies, health care, some transportation systems (food delivery) and energy. I don't care how rabidly Republican one might be, one wouldn't want private sector services for national security. Why should something like energy be different when "peak oil" predictions tell of a population die off due to scarcity of oil by 2050? It might be true that cigarettes don't cause cancer and global warming is Al Gore's conspiracy to enrich himself, but I doubt it. Why take the chance?

Actually, an oil executive said something in testimony that day that I find a lot more offensive than Water's remark that is just as true. He reiterated the industry mantra that oil companies do not serve the public, instead they are obligated to their shareholders.

Just keep telling yourselves that fellas.

Bring them home and do right by them.

The U.S. Senate passed Senator Jim Webb’s new GI Bill with a veto-proof majority, prevailing over opposition from President Bush, John McCain, and 21 other conservative Republican senators.

This is good news for veterans who have found that the maximum educational benefit of $11 thousand per year falls short of the $14 thousand average tuition cost for public universities, much less the $29 thousand average for private schools. Even community colleges can be out of reach as the benefit there is reduced to some $7 thousand.

Opponents to the bill objected to the cost of new benefits and warned that increased educational opportunities would be a drain on troop strength.

A drain on troop strength, hell, the pentagon has been calling troops back beyond their enlistment period since November 2003 under the “stop loss” program that has sent 300,000 Regular, National Guard, and Reserve troops back into combat for second, third, and more 15-month deployments, a deadly “Catch 22” situation.

As for the cost, I would point to cost/benefit analyses of the Serviceman’s Readjustment Act of 1944, which returned five times its cost in economic returns to the nation.

It’s time we bring our people home and do right by them.

McCain Loses Key Endorsement

The mainstream media finally got around to reporting on some of John Hagee’s batshit crazy preaching and confronted John McCain with some of Hagee’s remarks about Hitler being God’s instrument to return Jews to the Holy Lands in time for the Big Shebang.

McCain finally repudiated Hagee and rejected his endorsement.

Hagee in return withdrew his endorsement of candidate McCain.

No statement yet on where Hagee will lead his much-shorn flock of sheeple next. My guess is that they’ll go with former GOP congressman and caveman Bob Barr, who is currently polling 8% in Georgia.

Campaign Shake-up

I was startled yesterday to hear a reporter on NPR say that John McCain played a big part in exposing GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s crimes. Yes, McCain and Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell did call Abramoff and Scanlon before the Indian affairs committee and exposed some of their thieving and lying, but even then he was pulling his punches in a line of investigation that should have lead to Tom Delay, Ralph Reed, Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, and George W. Bush back in 2004.

McCain is a little sensitive about having sold his soul to the corporate lobbyists that have been pulling the Republican Party’s strings for over twenty years. Now that this story’s getting legs, he’s had to start throwing people overboard. You see, by law, federal lobbyists cannot be on the campaign payroll, and they are prohibited from donating or collecting money.

Bush crony and ex-Texas Congressman Tom Loeffler is just the latest to go. His firm has received $15 million from the Saudis, and he represented the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Group that got the multi-billion dollar contract for air-refueling tankers that McCain got pulled from American company Boeing Aerospace.

Already gone are Doug Goodyear and Doug Davenport, registered lobbyists for the Burmese junta that today is preventing the delivery of food, water, and medical aid to their disaster-stricken people.

There’s Rick Davis and Charlie Black, whose clients include SBC Communications, Russian billionaires, and the Somali government that sheltered Osama bin Laden.

And last, consider Craig Shirley, cut loose from the campaign when he was connected to 527 group “Stop Him Now,” an anti Obama smear campaign, offshoot of anti Clinton group “Stop Her Now.” Shirley was part of the group that aired the racist Willie Horton ads in 1996, and later organized the first press conference for Paula Jones, who he found by dragging a hundred dollar bill through a trailer park.

John McCain is no outsider. He was born into the Washington power structure, son and grandson of Navy Admirals. His choice of associates shows that he’s no “Mr. Clean.” This is another troubling aspect to one who was once an appealing candidate.

Chupacabra Report

News that gets my goat..

I was just watching the excellent Rachael Maddow filling in for Keith Olberman on Countdown and saw a clip of Mike Huckabee speaking at the NRA convention. Seems he was interrupted by the sound of a chair falling backstage, and adlibbed: “That was Senator Obama, he was getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

This was the religious values candidate for president? At least this probably means that we won’t have to listen to his stupid pandering in the vice-presidential debates, although this probably opens the field for Willard Romney, the biggest tool out there.

It seems that when you scratch just below the surface with these people, you find Jim Crow. I often accuse these phony conservatives of trying to take us back to the nineteenth century, surely they can’t hark back to the days of Booth, Guiteau, and Czolgosz, when bullets superseded ballots.

Pro-Israel doesn't always mean what most think

Myths about true support for the Jewish state
By JEREMY BEN-AMI for The Houston Chronicle

> The Rev. John Hagee and his fellow Christian Zionists are good for the Jews.

Hardly. Are Israel and American Jewry really so desperate that we must cozy up to people whose messianic dreams entail having us all killed or converted to Christianity? Hagee, the founder of Christians United for Israel, and his ilk believe that Israel dare not cede any territory in the quest for peace, claiming that the Bible promised all of the holy land to the Jews. In other words, Christian Zionists look at the trade-offs that Israel must make to achieve peace — and hope to thwart them. Then again, peace is not what these folks have in mind; they hope that Israel will seek to permanently expand its borders, thereby goading the Arabs into a war that will become the catalyst for Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. Do your ambitions for Israel extend beyond turning it into the fuel for the fire of the "End of Days"? Then Hagee and company are not — repeat, not — your friends.

> George W. Bush is the best friend Israel has ever had.

Not even close. The president has acted as Israel's exclusive corner man when he should have been refereeing the fight. That choice weakened Israel's long-term security.
Israel needs U.S. help to maintain its military edge over its foes, but it also needs the United States to contain Arab-Israeli crises and broker peace. Israel's existing peace pacts owe much to Washington's ability to bridge the mistrust among parties in the Middle East. So when the United States abandons the role of effective broker and acts only as Israel's amen choir, as it has throughout Bush's tenure, the United States dims Israel's prospects of winning security through diplomacy. The best gift that Israel's friends here could give this gallant, embattled democracy on its milestone birthday would be returning the United States to its leading role in active diplomacy to end the conflicts in the Middle East — and help a secure, thriving Israel find a permanent, accepted home among the community of nations.

Ben-Ami is executive director of J Street, a lobby and political action committee that promotes peace and security in the Middle East.

Tory Mathematics

The other week there was news of the gas price spike being a windfall for the State of Texas, bringing us a multi-billion dollar surplus, of which Perry, Craddick, and Combs (the axis of weasel) mean to return a portion to state taxpayers. Later I found proposed figures showing that the refund would come to eighty-some dollars per household.

This week I see that Allstate has settled with the state’s toothless insurance watchdog, agreeing to pay millions to overcharged customers, each receiving approximately eighty-two dollars.

So I remember the “rule of three,” and go on the lookout for the missing link.

I think that I found it in a sociological work comparing the income of exotic dancers to that of sex workers. It seems that the price of a quick trick outside of a truckstop on I-10 is eighty dollars and up.

Is that what they take us for? Do they think that for eighty bucks they can be screwing us?

Pastor Hagee Fights Back!

Pastor Hagee's Press Release

I feel the need after days of media misrepresentation to respond to slanderous accusations about being a religious bigot. It is truly disappointing to me to see how quickly accusation and rumor crystallize into fact in the hands of media outlets, which do not seem interested in subjecting these claims to serious review in search of the truth. If they would come to know our former Catholic, Temple Boys, who serve delicious iced tea and set up chairs (and clean up after) in the church basement for our twice-weekly demon. exorcisms, this outrageousness would never come to be.

I know that those of you here today know better than to believe everything you hear on the television or read in the newspaper. I know this because most of you have never succumbed to sinful and worldly acts such as reading, and all church issued televisions only have one channel. But I want to thank you for your trust and your faith in me as evidenced by your many cards, letters and phone calls of support at home and across America. The main claim my critics are making is that I am anti-catholic and that I have made derogatory statements about the Catholic Church. Sure, many of you have become a little over zealous at "Toss a Catholic for Christ" sessions here at the church, but this is all in good fun.

Anyone who knows anything about me, my life's work and this church, knows how utterly false this accusation is. Nonetheless, let me state my position as clearly as I can. I am not now, nor have I ever been anti-Catholic. Cornerstone Church has operated a social services center for more than 20 years where we feed the hungry and clothe the needy five days a week. The vast majority of those who benefit from this ministry are Catholic. These poor souls can't help being raised in Satan's bosom; sipping poison from the Dark Master's trident fundus. All we can do is to show mercy, understanding, and whenever possible, remove the younger ones to serve in the Hagee House.

I personally supported a convent for over ten years providing complimentary housing for elderly, retired nuns. Many of you remember the day of honor that we had for those nuns in this church for their lifetime of service to God. Some said they would never survive Our Lord's painful obstacle course to the True God, but sure nuff a few did. These are not the acts of someone who is anti-Catholic. I have dedicated most of my adult life to eradicating anti-Semitism from Christianity, even if it meant throwing the Pope under the bus.

As part of this effort, I have criticized the past anti-Semitism of the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church. In fact, I rarely speak about Christian anti-Semitism without denouncing the founder of Protestantism, Martin Luther, whose book, "concerning the Jews and their lies" was a poisoned well of anti-Semitism. Calling Christians to account for our past anti-Semitism does not make me anti-Catholic and it does not make me Anti-Protestant. It simply makes me an opponent of anti-Semitism.

Throughout my life, I have often taught from the Book of Revelation. During these teachings, I have read to you the Apostle John's writings about the great whore of Revelation 17. In my writings, I have never stated that the great whore is the Catholic Church. Quite to the contrary, the Book Revelation teaches clearly that the great whore will be an apostate church made up of all Christians from all denominations that stray from the path of God and embrace a godless lifestyle including the sin of anti-Semitism.

The media attacks have expanded to include the accusation that I am also anti-gay. The Bible clearly teaches that homosexuality is not a righteous lifestyle. But this doesn't mean that I and the millions of other bible-believing Christians are hateful toward the gay community. My gosh no. The Bible teaches that there are many sins and that all of us are guilty of committing sin at some point in time. The fact that 90% of the men in this church regularly wear pink izods, severely pressed slacks, penny-loafers, live with their mothers, and have never married gives me great pride that this church is a magnet to men who would turn away from harlots so forcefully.

Does this mean that I hate you, that I hate myself or anyone who comes short of the Glory of God? No, on the contrary. Christ teaches us to love one another, as I have loved you. We follow Christ' example; we hate the sin and we love the sinner. As most of you know, two years ago, I founded Christians United for Israel. I believed then and believe now that Israel's friends dare not be silent when Israel is facing such serious threats to her existence.

Ever since I started speaking out for Israel, I have come under intense scrutiny and increasing attack. I did not plan to spend this period of my life in the middle of a political fire storm. Rest assured I will not shrink from our work on behalf of Israel. And when the time come, I'll be the first one there roasting a weenie on the Temple Mount.

I will continue to stand with Israel in the future. (Applause) Thank you very much. Thank you.

Of the Corporations, By the Corporations, and For the Corporations..

High court can't hear apartheid victims' suit

By MARK SHERMANAssociated Press

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court said Monday that it can't intervene in an important dispute over the rights of apartheid victims to sue U.S. corporations in U.S. courts because four of the nine justices had to sit out the case over apparent conflicts.

The court's hands were tied by federal laws that require at least six justices to hear any case before them.

The justices have ties to Bank of America, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Colgate-Palmolive, Credit Suisse, Exxon Mobil, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Nestle, among nearly three dozen companies that asked the high court to step in.

Chupacabra Report

The good news this week is that the Missile Dick Chicks visited Halliburton headquarters in Houston on their way to the Art Car Parade.

Now, for news that gets my goat..

-From Gary Scharrer at the Chronicle’s Austin Bureau:

“Texas schools warn inflation could send districts into bankruptcy — The funding system approved by Texas lawmakers two years ago provides no new money to cover rising prices, educators say, and unless a fix is enacted, districts will be faced with difficult choices such as closing campuses or firing teachers.”

-But just last week, I was reading this:

By CLAY ROBISON
Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle Austin Bureau

“AUSTIN — The nation may be on the verge of a recession, but the Texas economy is doing well enough for Comptroller Susan Combs to predict Tuesday that the Legislature will have a $10.7 billion surplus when it convenes in January.
Much of the extra money can be attributed to record oil prices. While motorists are being socked with ever-increasing gasoline costs, oil and gas employment in Texas has been booming, the comptroller's office reported.
If Combs' early forecast holds up, Gov. Rick Perry would like to return part of the money to the taxpayers in the form of tax cuts or rebate checks, spokesman Robert Black said. But those steps would need legislative action.”

-So what is it, are we flush or busted? Probably safe to go with busted, see this:

By JENNIFER C. KERR
Associated Press

“WASHINGTON — Increasing numbers of U.S. troops have left the military with damaged bodies and minds, an ever-larger pool of disabled veterans that will cost the nation billions for decades to come — even as the total population of America's vets shrinks.
Despite the decline in total vets — as soldiers from World War II and Korea die — the government expects to be spending $59 billion a year to compensate injured warriors in 25 years, up from today's $29 billion, according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press. And the Veterans Affairs Department concedes the bill could be much higher.”

-This reminds me of Army General Eric Shinseki, who was cashiered by Bush and Rummy when he said that the Iraq invasion could require hundreds of thousands of troops.

And Economic Council Director Lawrence Lindsey, replaced in 2002 after estimating that the Iraq war could cost $200 billion.

The administration said that the war could cost $50-60 billion, if it wasn’t all paid for out of Iraqi oil revenues.

Last year total outlays reached $400 billion, and the Congressional Budget Office now estimates that the price of the war will reach $2.4 trillion in ten years.

Please remember such rose-colored baloney this year when you hear Republicans say that they’re the responsible party of fiscal conservatives.

21st Annual Houston Art Car Parade

The parade was mega fun! Yes, it was scorching hot, but all the action made up for it. Here we are in tow with Venus. This is the only one of us I could spot on chron.com this morning. Lucy took some personal photos, and I will share some of these once I figure out how to load them. I felt we made nearly everyone happy we were there.

Personally, I need to note the presence of one group that stole the show, in my opinion. The Chicks with Missle Dicks, shown below, who are a guerrilla auxilliary force connected with Code Pink. These determined street protesters and their gorgeous partners have seemingly endless energy and courage, and should be commended for their great effort and showmanship.

Be sure to visit Chron soon and view the beautiful shots they have up for the best kept secret international event in Texas.

Thanks to Nite Train, Judge Hoarse, M. dos Pachangas, Lil Niki, the kids, J-Roam, Beat-o and everybody who contributed.

J-Roam told me a joke that reminded me of HRC's strange compaign these days:

A man comes in to a bar with a seeing-eye dog, orders a drink, then walks on the dance floor and starts spinning the large animal around his head to the astonishment of the bar tender. "What are you doing?!", shouts the bar-keep.

"Just taking a look around."

By the way, Happy 104th Birthday to Huey Long. We love you Huey. Hope to see you soon.

Jungle Boogie

Our friend, Steve Brudniak has a gallery affair in Austin on May 30th that we are excited about. So, I have set him over on the right and urge everyone to explore the site of this genuine great American artist, renaissance man, and lover.

Let's not forget about the Houston Art Car Parade, Saturday, May 10th (beginning approximately at 11:00 a.m.) at Allen Pkwy and Shepherd. Nite Train will be performing "Tarzaname," by Miguel dos Pachangas, while in tow by Venus' Hairse sporting a totally new doo provided by Beans Barton (also on the right). If you don't already know Beans, well, there's just no hope for you. We'll be giving away free elephant poop at the end for your organic compost needs. Limit one wheel barrel per person.

On the fresh-side of things, Frank N. Stein and his sweetheart, Gloria, got hitched by a JP last Saturday. We wish the nuptials a lifetime of happiness. There will be a reception at the Old Bakery in Moulton on June 7th, with catering from Gonzales Meat Mrkt. Please RSVP to ZDD or with the Stein's.

This going to be something. I heard on the radio that Houston is forecast to have 100-plus degree temps on Saturday, so drink lots of liquids.

Chupacabra Report

News That Get's My Goat:

Climatologists from the Max Planc Institute recently reported that global warming will be delayed some in Europe and North America, until approximately 2015; effects cancelled out by changes to the Gulf Stream, the river of ocean currents that circulate warm water from the tropics to the North Atlantic.

Funny, my neighbor just sent me a video pegging Biblical end-time prophecies to the year 2015, when the Goddard Space Flight Center’s calendar of eclipses predicts an event like the blood-red moon from Revelation.

Secular Humanist me, I’ll bet on the climate change.

The other day I was finding fault with some presidential candidate’s positions, here’s another: All three candidates are in favor of a cap and trade system to reduce carbon emissions. Chronicle business reporter Loren Steffy asked Sunday how long it would take traders to game a cap and trade system, suggesting for example that companies could concentrate all their credits in one region and cut back in others “like some carbon-based version of Enron’s ‘Ricochet’ scheme.”

I’m with him, a BTU or carbon tax is a more direct and effective means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This is another reason that we need to elect robust Democratic majorities this year at all levels of government. Here in Texas, the state Commission on Environmental Quality has again gone to bat to prevent the city of Houston from regulating big polluters in it’s jurisdiction.

In the coming era of post-Republican rule, we’ll have plenty of market-based mayhem to clean up after. Let’s find us some tools that will work, rather than accept more of the same corporate boondoggle that’s been shining on us this past decade.

On the Issues..

In today’s op-ed pages, the always refreshing Froma Harrop is nailing the candidates down on the issues again:

“One thing that can't be changed right now is higher gasoline prices. Thus, calls by Republican John McCain and Democrat Hillary Clinton to suspend the federal gas tax over the summer are worse than pandering. They're counterproductive.”
“Only Democrat Barack Obama had the fortitude to tell American consumers that the exit from high oil prices is the door leading away from oil. He noted that the tax holiday would save the average consumer a mere $30 and jeopardize funds needed for roads and bridges.”

“McCain's idea of a government-run pool to cover the sick ones turns his plan into another bonanza for the insurance industry. It lets insurers make a pile selling their policies to healthy people, while the taxpayers are stuck with the expensive patients.”
“On this issue, Clinton is the only leading candidate to show true grit and deliver a hard fact that many don't want to hear: Universal coverage cannot happen unless everyone participates in the system. This means that healthy people who don't feel like buying health coverage have to be dragged in.”

-And then there’s the war. Although the next president’s freedom of movement will of course be severely constricted by reality, I believe that most Americans oppose McCain’s “one-hundred year plan.”

So let’s do what we can to keep it real. Challenge people when you hear them parroting the samsara baloney they hear batted around on the mainstream media.

This ain’t no reality show.

The Wright Stuff

Many of us have wondered what would happen when Obama ceased to be a media darling and instead became a target for slime. I didn’t think that the “God, guns, and gays” thing would kill him, and even though I heard “God damn America” (and little else) about a jillion times, I didn’t think that could sink him either. I went online and heard the whole sermon, and wasn’t all outraged. Even Pastor Huckabee, who can pander with the best of them, gave Wright a pass.

I was saddened when the Wheeler Ave. Baptist Church cancelled this year’s visit from the Reverend Wright because he’d received death threats. I had hoped to hear him speak. I tuned in late for his appearance on Bill Moyers’ show, but heard some of the National Press Club talk on Pacifica Radio.

“Chickens coming home to roost” turned out bad for Malcolm X, and it’s not working out well for Wright either. As for genocide by HIV, I don’t know, but it sounds crackpot to me, except in the sense of by neglect, which is hardly disputable. Makes me wonder though, how many Americans know about the Tuskegee experiments, which went on until about thirty years ago.

Anyways, I was disappointed to see that Obama had to throw him overboard, like he was Tom Eagleton or something. I was hoping that Oprah would have him on the show for like a week, until he sold a million books and became as ubiquitous as Dr. Phil, becoming America’s favorite Ex-Marine Black Preacher.

Oh well, what do I know..
